This pair of conceptual earrings were inspired by the intricate structure of  the human spinal cord. Subtracted to its abstract form, I constructed the piece by intersecting rectangular planes through each other. Similar to the Constructivist’s ideal, the edges of the planes define the whole structure. As the edges were burnished and the planes were depletion gilded to a frosty white surface, the contrast of the distinct colors and textures give the structure of the piece a solid look. 

 

Despite the fact that the human spinal cord is born to be symmetrical, my abstract form of a spinal cord is however, asymmetrical and disordered in a fashion that has its own sense of personality. As we may all have similar organs and bones in our own bodies, each one of them look and function differently in different bodies.
